Leader Qualifications

Each 12 week Session of the Healthy Family Program requires two leaders:

The Parents’ Group is led by an individual with medical training at the level of an RN, Physician’s Assistant, Nurse Practicioner, or MD/DO.

The Peer Support Group for adolescents is led by an individual with a background in education, psychology, communication, health, or a related field.

Financial Considerations

There are two categories of expenses for host sites:

1. Fees paid to the Healthy Family Adolescent Weight Management Program for Licensure, Materials, Leader Training and Support.

2. Costs incurred in implementing the program for Leader Compensation, Marketing, and Administrative Support.

Expenses can be met through several sources:

1. Grants from charitable/government organizations at the local, state, or federal level.

2. Support via the operating budget of your institution.

3. Fees charged to participating families.

The expenses for most Healthy Family Program Sessions are met through a combination of the sources listed above. Some charitable organizations will provide funding for multi-group/multi-year projects.

We can help your organization apply for grant funding by providing information about the program and financial projections regarding cost. For more information contact us at hostsiteinfo@healthyfamilyusa.org.

Become a Host Site

Is your organization looking for a program to address adolescent obesity in your community? Are you affiliated with a hospital, medical provider, YMCA or Health Education Center?

If yes, then the Healthy Family Program is for you.

What Makes Us Unique?
The Healthy Family Program is based on two important realizations made by Dr. Hoyle while contemplating the challenges of managing obesity in her adolescent patients:

  • For many overweight adolescents, obesity is a family problem.
  • Overweight adolescents often carry remarkable emotional burdens which must be addressed in order to make progress in management.

Discussion of these issues led to the creation of our curriculum, which emphasizes:

Parental Involvement – parents attend meetings with their child, participate in weigh-in, receive customized nutrition and exercise recommendations for themselves and their child, and receive support from other parents to improve their own life and health as well as their child’s.

Peer Support – young people participate in small group discussions that allow them to share their feelings and develop constructive solutions to weight management challenges while building friendships and self-esteem.

What Can We Do For You?
Healthy Family, can provide your organization with the all the materials and support you need to provide comprehensive and medically appropriate weight management programming for families in your community.

The materials you will receive include:

The Healthy Family Curriculum: Binders for each participating family and handouts for each weekly discussion.

Training Manual: Training pages for each discussion make it easy for leaders to present material and facilitate discussion.

Administrative Manual: Three years of experience providing Healthy Family Sessions to the public in a variety of settings has allowed us to create an administrative manual that outlines the responsibilities of the program coordinator and will help your team with strategies for choosing group leaders, recruiting families, and promoting the program in your community.

Outcomes Measurements Packet: Procedures and materials for data tracking, including excel spreadsheet templates, and outcomes measurements, including pre- and post-participation questionnaires, and have been developed and are included. Ongoing outcomes measurements for the Healthy Family Program as well as measurements for your specific project can be made available to your sponsoring organizations.

Customized Participant Profiles: Each participant will receive an individualized nutrition and exercise plan developed by Dr. Hoyle based on information (age, gender, height, and weight) collected from participants upon registration.

The Healthy Family Support Team: Support for your project is available through our website and with email communication with your team on a weekly and as-needed basis.

After the 12-Week Program
Healthy weight management is a lifetime commitment. That’s why we have developed the Healthy Family Continuation Curriculum. Your organization can provide Continuation groups of Healthy Family open to participants who have completed the 12-week program.

Continuation groups can be led by any Healthy Family Leader and meet twice a month for weigh in, group celebration, and discussion of an appropriate article from the press. New articles and talking points will be available on our Web site on a weekly basis. These materials can be downloaded by your leader and will require minimal preparation time.

Email Healthy Family to request access to a sample unit from our current program. You wil receive a member ID which may be used to download information from this site.
