Healthy Family Adolescent Weight Management Program

The Healthy Family Program was created by long-time friends Gretchen Hoyle, MD, a General Pediatrician, and Kirsten Davis, MAEd, a School Counselor. Each have personal experience with obesity and the lifestyle changes that result in maintainable weight loss.

Dr. Gretchen HoyleGretchen Hoyle, MD
Hi – my name is Gretchen Hoyle and I am one of the creators of the Healthy Family Program. I have a personal interest in helping overweight patients because I know first-hand about being overweight. During my eight years of medical training, I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. I ate high calorie, high fat foods in large quantities and got very little exercise. At the end of my training, I had 2 children. After the birth of my second child, I realized I was 100lbs overweight. At the same time, I was working as a Pediatrician and I was seeing a lot of patients and families who were struggling with obesity as well. I found it difficult to give advice about good nutrition and exercise, when I wasn’t following my own advice. I decided to change my lifestyle so that I could feel better and lose weight. I wanted to be able to keep up with my children and set a good example for them. It took one year, but I lost 100 lbs. I realized that the small changes I made over a long period of time had resulted in a new healthy lifestyle. I wanted to share what I had learned with my patients. I wanted to start a program that would help adolescents make healthy choices, but I knew that pure information was not enough. Overweight teens needed a group where they could share their feelings and realize that they are not alone. I knew the perfect person to help make that a reality…

Kirsten Davis, MAEdKirsten Davis, MAEd
Hi – my name is Kirsten Davis and I am one of the creators of the Healthy Family Program. I have a Masters Degree in counseling and I have worked with young people throughout my career. During my years in graduate school and working as a school counselor, I had some unhealthy habits. I have always been a physically active person, but I made some unhealthy food choices and ate large portion sizes. I was 50 lbs overweight when I decided to change my lifestyle. It took one year, but I was able to lose 50 lbs by making better food choices and increasing my level of exercise. When my friend, Gretchen, asked me about helping adolescents and their families, I was so excited! We have had a wonderful experience working on the Healthy Family Program. A healthy lifestyle requires daily effort. We strive to make good choices for ourselves and our children, just like the families in our program
